Literacy Bag
The goal of the project is to see how your child interacts with literature. Literature is many things; it is reading, reading the words, understanding the concept of reading and making up your own words to go with pictures, and even knowing how the story goes and reciting it; it is writing, scribbling, drawing, and making the symbols that represent what we read. One of the things about literature that is often overlooked is the fact that literature is creation. What children know and will know in the future is not only environmental or biological it is also creation. Children must create the pieces and put them together in order to learn literature.
In this project you were given a bag for your child. This bag contained many things that don’t seem to go together. But as a future teacher I would like to see how the children create to learn or extend their learning in literature. So I ask of you to watch and observe your child, read with them let them read to you, encourage them to write, encourage them to play. Please be my guest to add your own things and to take away the things that you don’t want. Explore the world of literacy and find out how much more there is then just reading and writing.
I will be sending weekly news and biweekly questionnaires I hope that you will enjoy this project as much as I will hearing about them. Thank you for working with me in all of this.
